So I’m back in Yokosuka for a two-week school at ATG. I got all settled in to my BOQ room this evening and walked out of the gate to look around and take in all that is Yoko. I was excited to come back, and the whole flight and bus ride here had me getting anxious. Unfortunately, I think Yokosuka has gotten a little shittier. I know I’ve only been back a few hours, but man this place looks and feels like Norfolk, Virginia. Everyone’s a gangster, there’s a shitload of cars with pounding systems, people are hanging out in shady areas at night, literally and figuratively. Eh oh well…that’s not my problem anymore. If anything, I’m really appreciating being in Singapore. Now, if only I can find some friends from my last ship who haven’t gotten out or transferred.
Good! (well, sort of)
Apparently, I’m not the only person who is of the same mind. How we all wish it wasn’t the case!
Jim – Welcome back! I’d like to call you while you’re here if you can give me a phone number to call you that would be great. Maybe we could meet up for a bruski too in the Honch.
I don’t spend enough time in Yokosuka outside of work to notice. It is funny how people think they are gangster or whatever when they are in the Navy. You’re a real hard ass until a Khaki stops by to hem you up. Well, those that do.
But besides the crappiness of Yokosuka, I’m still around–busy with the parents in town this week but free next week.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to find it difficult finding people from USS Last Ship. Anyone with common sense left that place because of how shitty the command, or just being on a ship in Japan, was…
Hey Jim, apparently I live next door to one of your old shipmates. Kind of a weird guy…hope you enjoy your stay in Yoko!
Who would that be exactly?
Gangster… hmm.. its where you grew up is how you will act and be, you can’t change just cuz u got beat in bootcamp, or got your @$$ chewed by a first class when u were a recruit.
for example i dress the way i dress cuz i grew up that way, i changed to fit regulations but still refuse to wear golf shirts, collared shirts, and suits and ties to walk around the NEX. if others were raised to be a school boy / fag then let them, i dont care. wear what u can and authorized but dont change for no one.
i think its stereotyping… also u gotta look the definition of gangster, it means do what the f#@% u want to do…. nobody in the navy can do that LOL so i guess youre right, but in the end the way you act and dress is how u were raised or grew up.
everyone didnt get recruited in Alabama or North carolina or VA… some came from Philly, LA, Frisco, NY….i can go on , but everyone gets the point.
